Finally - the Beach!

Chloe: Finally!  We made it to the beach!  I love every single thing about being at the beach - Aunt Diane, digging, boogie boarding, eating tomatoes, everything!

Amber: Yup - it was awesome!  I turned as brown as a coconut in three days and Mommy keeps saying, "not fair."

Kyra: I had fun, too.  I ate sand when Daddy wasn't looking and I got to take very relaxing naps.

Kyra: Ahhh.

Four Day Weekend!

Amber: Oh my!  What a four day weekend!!

Chloe: We had SO much fun!

Kyra: Monday sucks.

Amber: Totally... well, you're the oldest, Chlo Chlo - do the rundown.

Chloe: Okay, here goes:  Thursday, we went to the pool and we CLOSED IT DOWN.  We didn't get home until almost 11!  We were up crazy late!  We were swimming, barbecuing, laughing - it was awesome.  On Friday, we did errands with Mommy, packed up our toys, and hit the highway to make it to Sea Isle City!  That means DIANE and BEACH - my two favorite words.  Mommy took us to the park when we got there and then we got water ice.  Saturday, Daddy arrived on the bus and we spent the whole day at the beach!  Sunday, we went back to the beach again while he took care of Kyra and napped.  We were digging and playing in the sand and eating ice cream - it was incredible.

Amber: I am brown as a coconut.  I love summer!

Kyra: No one gave me ice cream, but other than that, it was good.

Chloe: Well, there's always next time.

Happy Birthday, Aunt Diane!

Chloe: I love my Diane.  I love her so much.  I just want to be with her all the time and I tell Mommy that all.the.time so she knows.  So, of course, I was thrilled to spend Sunday with her, Uncle John and Miss Desiree at the beach.  I sang Happy Birthday multiple times and gave lots of kisses and tried to dig to China and ate fish and chips and cried and cried and cried when we left.

Chloe: I was simply overcome with hysteria.

Amber: She really was.  Listen to her.

Chloe: If I could figure out a way to live in Aunt Diane's purse, I would.

Amber: She totally would.

Chloe: Returning home from the beach house really requires chemical intervention.

Amber: Thank God she finally shut up so I could sleep.

The Party!

 Chloe: Hi, Amber.  Hi, Ethan.

Amber: You're a cutie, you know that?

Amber: I love that kid, he cracks me up!

Chloe: Aunt Diane's party is a good place to practice modeling, so I dunked my head into the wagon full of water to get the "just off the beach" look.  What do you think?

Amber: Eh, try to be more natural, more fluid.  Watch me for tips.

 Chloe: Like this?

 Chloe: What about this?

Amber: Um... well... just stick with me, kid - I'll help you up your game...

Amber: ...I mean, later I will.  Aunt Diane's party is like a marathon, man.  I need a nap!

Note from Mommy and Daddy: Thank you, Aunt Diane and Uncle John for such a wonderful party and such a lovely visit - we had a great time!!

"Up Thru the Atmosphere, Up Where the Air is Clear..."

Chloe: Ah, so relaxing.  I've been wanting a kite* for some time and it is all I imagined.  The billowing, the flying, the control... I love it.

Amber: What?  What are you talking about?  What are we supposed to be doing right now?

Amber: ...Oh... I see what you did there.  Okay.  Neat.

(pause, watching kite)
(yup, still flying)
(oh, someone ducked because they thought it was a real seagull* - heh)
(ducks are better than seagulls)
(QUACK)

...Seriously?  We're still on the freakin' kite?

Chloe: Yeah, let's take a walk - we'll make Daddy pull for a bit and then we'll bust out!

Amber: Cool.  It's fun how everyone on the promenade is laughing at him, pulling an empty wagon as we exert our independence.

Chloe: Independence is EXHAUSTING.

Amber: True dat.  Let's chill for a bit before the party...

(Party pics coming tomorrow)

*Note from Chloe: Daddy said it was really brave of Mommy to buy a kite depicting an animal of which she is afraid.  I'm not sure why she hates birds so much, but she said that all weekend, she felt like Tippi Hedron.  I don't know what that means.

To Swim or Not to Swim...

 Amber: Back in the wagon!

Chloe: Yup - this is my favorite place to be - Aunt Diane and Uncle John's beach house!  Bring on the beach!

 Amber: MUSH, huskies!

Amber: I want the toys only when you are holding them and I am not afraid to steal, fight and kick to get what I want.

Chloe: Sigh.  That kid.

Chloe: No matter.  I will play in the water with Daddy. I love the ocean!!!

 Amber (sniffling): I do NOT.

Chloe: Oh, get over yourself.  And everyone else, stay tuned to tomorrow's blog post for more photos of last week's trip to the shore!

Back to the Beach!

Chloe: Thanks to Aunt Diane and Uncle John for having us back at the beach last weekend - it was a great way to get ready for the 4th!

Amber: We had a great time.  I was angling for Racer 5 IPA behind me, but sadly, that didn't work out.

Chloe: True, but we got to play a lot and eat yummy sandwiches from Aunt Diane and get ice cream...

Amber: And nap.  Oh, I adore a good nap.

Amber: So relaxing.  It was a shame to go home, really.

Chloe: I agree.  That's why I waited until we pulled into our driveway to begin screaming and crying for my Diane.  Mondays suck.

Amber: Word.

The Beach!

Chloe: We had a great time last weekend at the beach with Mommy, Daddy, Aunt Diane and Uncle John!

Amber: We really did - I can't wait to go back!

Amber: I'm going to eat more sand when no one is looking!

Chloe: Rebel.

Amber: I know.

Chloe: We were lucky to go when we did because it was Skimmer Weekend in Sea Isle City.  They had cool inflatables for kids, lots of vendors (i.e. lots of new dresses) and a lot of neat stuff.

Chloe: I made a sand sculpture dinosaur, "T-Rex Chloe."

Amber: I liked wearing Mommy's sunglasses and dancing to the band.

Amber: It was so much fun that I even fell asleep in the wagon!

Chloe: We cleaned up and then spent some time on Aunt Diane's new deck. Daddy read us a Superman comic and then after dinner, we had to go to bed...

Amber:...So we could have more fun on Father's Day - we went out for breakfast, saw classic cars on the promenade, went to the arcade and played on the playground.

Chloe: So fun - I can't wait to go back!

Amber: Hey, off-topic, but did you hear that Mommy wrote a book about us?

Chloe: Yeah - she had better buy us some toys with the royalties.

Amber: That, or send us to college.

Last Beach Trip of the Summer

Chloe: I am so depressed.

Amber: What's the matter?

Chloe: Last weekend was our last beach weekend of the summer. On the ride home, I fell asleep and when I woke up, we were in our driveway and I cried!!

Amber: But, fall is coming!

Chloe: I still don't undestand what that means. Who is falling? I don't like falling.

Amber: No, I mean 'autumn.'

Chloe: Yeah, Mommy said that, too. I don't know what that means either.

Amber (pauses): It means not summer.

Chloe: AND THAT'S WHY I'M DEPRESSED.

Amber: But, fall, I mean autumn, whatever has lots of fun stuff! Halloween and pumpkins and we can put spider things on the windows to scare Daddy.

Chloe: Mommy really does enjoy that.

Amber: Yeah, and then we can dress up for Halloween! Didn't Mommy say we were going to all be superheroes? That will be awesome! I can't wait to dress up as---

Chloe: WAIT! Don't tell. We have to give people reason to keep visiting the blog, Amber.

Amber: Oh, right. But, it will be so fun! And if we're good, maybe they'll take us to StorybookLand for trick or treating and I'll be outside Mommy's uterus this time.

Chloe: That would be cool... but I'm still sad. I want to be with Aunt Diane!

Amber: She will be home in the city soon and then we can see her here! Plus, she will have us over for Thanksgiving and again, I'll be out of Mommy's uterus!

Chloe: Ok, I feel better. Let's get to captioning.

Amber: Very good! Here I am, trying to climb over Daddy to get over to the sand that he does not want me to eat.

Chloe: Yeah, he's a pistol that way. I find that if Mommy is watching you, she actually will let you eat a fist of sand before stopping you.

Amber: Well, I guess I drew the short straw. Mommy was letting you MARINATE in the stuff and I just wanted a small taste.

Chloe: Daddy is fun, though. He and I were doing a lot of building.

Amber: I think I slept through that.

Chloe: Daddy kept trying to design things that didn't look inappropriate for children and eventually came up with the idea of designing a number wheel so we could talk about numbers while we were building.

Amber: Yeah, he's like the freakin' PBS channel... always trying to sneak stuff in while we're not looking.

Chloe: Well, I started counting for him to help him out, but when I said, "1, 2, 3, 4, 9" he grabbed his head and built a 5.

Amber: Ah, here she is... our lovely hostess.

Chloe: Yeah, I just love her. Hey, where was Uncle John?

Amber: I think he was working that day.

Chloe: What a sucker.

Amber: Yeah.

Chloe: When Mommy told me at the end of the trip that we had to leave, she explained that Aunt Diane and Uncle John had to go back to work and she asked me if I knew what people worked for and I said, "To buy me nice things."

Amber: What did Uncle John say?

Chloe: "Well, that's accurate."

Amber: LOL!
